I am an experienced teacher and currently Head of English and Media in a large secondary school. I am also an examiner for EDUQAS English Language GCSE. I have a range of resources available on TES. Some of my resources are quite old, from when I first started out, and I am currently working in my spare time to update my resources. There are a range of resources from displays, schemes of work, revision booklets, mock exam papers and lessons available.

Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol lesson on analysing the character of Scrooge

(0)
A lesson analysing the presentation of Scrooge in the beginning of the novella. This lesson is perfect for low ability or C/D borderline students. The lesson begins with a Do Now activity looking at different images and how the represent Scrooge, before moving on to an extract analysis task that can be completed independently or as a class. Included in the lesson is a worksheet with the three extracts on, including teacher modelled annotations on the smaller extract. Students finish the lesson by writing a PEE analysis of the presentation of Scrooge, which is again modelled and differentiated for weaker students.

A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens analysing the cratchits full lesson

(1)
A full lesson including powerpoint, learning objectives, success criteria and resources. A fun and engaging way of exploring the cratchits in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The lesson starts with a 'Christmas Carol Crossword' where they need to identify and recall the family members' names, before moving on to extract analysis. The first extract is modelled already on the powerpoint, but this can easily be removed and embedded timers are on the slides already. Think, Pair, Share opportunities are in the lesson too, with students needing to match up the quote to the description of how Bob Cratchit feels (slide 6 and 7-this will need printing). I have taught this lesson to three different classes and all classes have showed rapid progress and a real engagement in the lesson.
